About the Schlumbergera Database

The Schlumbergera variety database below will be updated periodically. Inception of the Schlumbergera database lists below began on November, 1st, 2010. The Schlumbergera Database is a volunteer project. The data collected is free for all to use. Data is added/collected by fellow Schlumbergera growers wanting to assist other Schlumbergera growers/hybridizers. Submissions are donated by various Schlumbergera growers worldwide.

The Purpose Of The Schlumbergera Database

To assist hybridizers in choosing Schlumbergera to cross. Also growers and collectors in choosing the best variety for there location. In having a list of approximate bloom times of either early or late bloomers they can better decide varieties to test as a potential cross. It also will list there hybrid name(s) and flower colors as there’s only partial lists of named varieties available in any one location, website, book or any other form of list worldwide.

The lists are based in Alphabetical order by hybrid name or by species name. Due to locations, weather grown etc. there is a margin of error, so even though a particular variety may be on the list already, please submit and or re-submit more info. for your growing location/conditions. An average bloom time will then be computed for each variety. At any given time these Schlumbergera lists may not be in alphabetical order since submissions are random, but it will be periodically re-organized as more submissions are collected. Any grower who contributes significantly to this list will besides there initials next to the submission also receive an honorable mention towards the bottom of the Schlumbergera table/lists. Links to your pictures of the hybrids or species can also be entered.



The Schlumbergera Database Tables-How to collect info.for submission(s)


Below will show you how to collect your info. for each Schlumbergera variety step by step. There are 3 main pieces or steps before submitting 2 are explained in detail below. The 3rd step is simply having your plant nearby or in view. If that's not possible make notes and have those ready.

Step #1 Get a Bloom Picture URL for your variety(s).

Step #2 Get the Latitude for your growing location.

Step #3 Have your plant variety(s) nearby for description of growth characteristics.

Only your own pictures may be submitted, not ones found on the internet. You are allowed to watermark your pictures or place © symbols. We will then overlay a licensed to with a copyright symbol © (year) if you don't have one already. Your pictures are only used within this Schlumbergera database to assist with comparisons. We can not control who may copy them, we strongly urge you to watermark your pictures prior to submitting if this concerns you.

Your pictures can be hosted for free by uploading them to any free picture hosting/sharing website such as , , , or Then copy the url assigned and submit it to the Schlumbergera Database.



We prefer Flickr for ease of use, sharing and applications but for the Schlumbergera database any free picture hosting website will work.

Simply have your plant nearby to describe growth, or make notes then have those ready by your computer.



How to use the Schlumbergera Database Submission Module below

( Once you completed steps #1 thru #3 your ready to make entries into the Schlumbergera database submission module below)

The submitter only takes a few minutes to complete after you collect the info. described above in the 3 steps. There are four or five questions the rest are all multiple choice. Many questions are optional but a few are required (*In Red) such as bud/bloom times and variety name.

Please try to answer every question if your able too and chose at least one box on all the multiple choice questions to better help other fellow growers and hybridizers. By giving as much information as possible your helping other Schlumbergera growers.

Due to space available in the tables only initials of the person submitting are put into the Schlumbergera Database Tables but your full name or combination of initials, last or first name can be listed below too for recognition of your contributions.

You wont need to memorize all of the symbol codes in the Schlumbergera database tables there already pre-loaded for you into the submitter as multiple choice boxes or pull downs.

Besides knowing your Schlumbergera varieties growing form, habits and bloom times, you will also need to know your growing locations latitude. Also you will need a bloom picture url ready to submit. There's step by step 1 thru 3 instructions on how to get both of these just above the Schlumbergera Database Submitter.
