Full Description: Cactus species Echinopsis rhodotricha has a 4" to 5" inch diameter nocturnal white bloom, slight pinkish with touches of gold-bronze overlayed colors in the back petals. Growth is clumping in form with upright or ascending, cylindrical type stem growth. The grey-green colored stem growth of Echinopsis rhodotricha can eventually reach 12" to 32" inches tall and average of 5" to 6" inches in diameter. Individual stems have 8 to 18 ribs and are slightly wavy, aerioles average 5/8" to 1" inch apart. Spines are brownish at base, yellowish colored on 1/2 the spine then with a dark brownish colored tip, older growth spines turn grayish in color. The single central spine, which can also be absent, is slightly bent upwards and up to 3/4"+ long. The spreading and slightly curved four to eight radial spines can be up to 3/4"+ long. A rare species in collections.

Synonym : Echinocactus forbesii, Echinopsis forbesii, Echinopsis chacoana

Native to : Argentina and Paraguay.

Flowers : Echinopsis rhodotricha has funnel shaped, white colored flowers with some pinkish colors in the back petals, nocturnal blooming-(opening at night), often staying open next morning. Flowers average 4" to 5" in diameter and are up to 6"+ inches long.

More info. : The species name rhodotricha is derived from the Greek words for rhodos meaning rose and trichos for hair which refers to the flower tubes hairs.

The first description of Echinopsis rhodotricha was by Karl Moritz Schumann, first published in the early 1900's.
