Full Description: Cactus species Weberbauerocereus rauhii is a slow growing shrubby tree like cactus with candelabra-like formed multi-branched growth, stems are upright, individual stems have an average diameter of 3-1/4" to 6" and can reach stature heights of up to 15'-20' ft. at full maturity. There is a short, thick trunk formed underneath the candelabra. There are average of 23 closely spaced ribs. The areoles are gray in color. There are up to six, very strong, yellow colored central spines which have a darker tip and are 2-1/4" to 2-3/4" long. The numerous whitish gray colored spines are 1/4" to 1/2" inch long and cover the body of the stems. Makes for a beautiful landscape cactus specimen in frost free locations. Almost no water required once well established, very drought tolorant.

Synonyms : Haageocereus rauhii

Native To : Peru- Distribution : Weberbauerocereus Rauhii is endemic to Peru. It can be found in the Arequipa, Ayacucho, Huancavelica and Ica regions, at an altitude of 900 to 2,500 m asl (Arakaki et al. 2006).

Flowers/fruit : The 4" inch diameter, slightly fragrant flowers of Weberbauerocereus rauhii are nocturnal and open at night. The flower has a violet-brown colored flower tube and is densely scaly. The outer bracts are reddish-brown colored, the inside petals are white to pink or brownish-pink. The fruits are brownish-red to orange colored and average 1-1/4" inches in diameter. The fruit is covered with a white wool.

More Info. : Weberbauerocereus Rauhii grows in shrub lands on rocky soils in its native habitat of Peru. The name rauhii honors the German botanist Werner Rauh.

Care : Semi-rich to porous soil. Full sun. Regular water for small plants in summer, little or no water in winter or for well established plants. Sort of a slow grower. Likes 50 degrees or more, can be susceptible to root rot in cold temps below 40 degrees. Very little water required in winter when not in full active growth.
