Full Description: Cactus species Weberbauerocereus johnsonii is a slow growing columnar cactus that will branch eventually on older specimens, occasionally staying solitary. Stem growth can slowly reach 12 to 18' feet in optimal conditions but stem diameter remains fairly narrow seldom more than 7" to 9" near the base on older specimens and only averaging 3" diameter when young. The golden hair like spines give it a regal appearance in the cactus garden made even more impressive at night if lighted with landscape lights as the light can be directed to shine through the golden spines. The flowers are small to medium sized pale white to pink in color, but this cacti is primarily used for the effect it brings into the cactus garden with its many brightly colored golden yellow spines.

Common names : Golden Column.

Synonyms : Haageocereus johnsonii, Weberbauerocereus winterianus.

Native to: South America-Peru, in the region of Cajamarca.

More info. ; This is a clone originating from the Weberbauerocereus johnsonii specimens collected by the famous nurseryman Harry Johnson on his second South American expedition in 1951. Harry Johnson is probably best remembered from his "Paramount hybrids" primarily hybrids he created in the Echinopsis genus among others Genus and also for the term he made of cylindrical Epicacti hybrids as "Aporophyllum(s)" which is still a common word used today in the U.S. to describe those Epicacti hybrid X Aporo plants today among nurseryman & collectors alike.

Care : Weberbauerocereus johnsonii likes full sun and semi-rich good draining soil mix if container planted. If ground planted its hardy to 25 degrees but only for brief periods. Little or no water required in winter but regular water in summer but can handle short periods of draught.
