Full Description: Epiphyllum Hybrid 'SHERMAN E. BEAHM' Has an Extra Large bloom with lilac-carmine red and lighter edges, outer petals are dark carmine. Flat basket growth.Reg.# 5476.

NOTES; Hybridized by Curt Knebel in 1935 (Knebel #227). Origonally this variety was named 'Adolf Hitler' Later the name was changed in the 40s for obvious reasons. Changed to Sherman E. Beahm of Beahm Gardens Nursery in Pasadena, California, U.S.A. Good grower, needs maturity to bloom but blooms well once mature with no setbacks.

MORE INFO; Curt Knebel a great early German Epicacti hybridizer who introduced this hybrid in 1935 origonally under the name 'Reichskanzler Adolph Hitler'- which was then shortened and anglicised as 'Adolf Hitler'. This name having become unacceptable after the Second World War, it was 'officially' changed to 'Sherman E. Beahm' by the Epiphyllum Society of America to commemorate another Epiphyllum hybridizer and nurseryman from Pasadena, California. One does have to wonder if Sherman Beahm liked the designation 'Sherman E. Beahm' (syn. 'Adolf Hitler'). FYI; Reichskanzler in German translates as Chancellor, so in whole the origonal hybrid name in English would have been translated as 'Chancellor Adolf Hitler'.
