Full Description: Trichocereus hybrid 'Pina Colada'-(Mex #570-1) has a 7" to 8" diameter bloom with inner petals dark pink to purplish petal edges, wide apricot-yellow with some salmon overlay mid stripe, slightly cupped inner petals, slightly ruffled petal edges. Next row of petals same with a wider mid stripe. Outer petals are apricot-light salmon with a narrow pinkish-purple edge. Anthers, stigma are yellow-golden colored with some dark pink colors in stamens. A cross of Echinopsis cv 'Indio Magic'(MEX #33) X Tricho. cv 'Flying Saucer'. Hybridized by world famous Echinopsis hybridizer Klaus-Peter Mügge of Germany.

Growth : Dark green stem growth. Stem growth averages 4" to 5" in diameter and tall columnar form growth up to 2ft.+. Spines are golden yellow colored.

Notes : Beautiful good sized multi-colored blooms, clean looking growth. Fast grower & a good pupper or offset producer too!

The stamens can vary in color from first open dark orange to almost red to pink by second day. On May 4th we recorder a bloom almost 7" in diameter, but still more to go for this season, beautiful multi-colored bloom !

This hybrid was named after the sweet Piña colada cocktail drink which is made with rum, coconut cream or coconut milk, and pineapple juice, usually served either blended or shaken with ice. Its often garnished with either a pineapple wedge, maraschino cherry, or both. Reportedly created by Ramón "Monchito" Marrero Pérez in 1952, the Piña colada has been the national drink of Puerto Rico since 1978.The name piña colada literally means "strained pineapple", a reference to the freshly pressed and strained pineapple juice used in the drink's preparation.
