Full Description: Succulent species Euphorbia xylophylloides is a flat stemmed Euphorbia with new growth tips yellowish in more shade to a burnt orange color in sun, intermediate growth is dark green later turning gloucous green on older growth. Individual stems average 1/2" to 3/4" inch wide and 4" to 8"+ long, multi-branching. No spines and has thick skin. Has minute green colored leaves on new growth that are deciduous. New growth is often upright in growth form but as it gets taller tends to be pendant. An odd plant that's sure to start conversation, easy to grow.

Common names : Paddle Cactus Euphorbia, Flattened Pencil Cactus

Synonym : Euphorbia enterophora, Tirucalia enterophora, Tirucalia xylophylloides

Native to : Madagascar

Flowers : Small pale yellow flowers appear in late winter to spring.

Caution : Like most in the Euphorbia genus Euphorbia xylophylloides has toxic milky white sap take caution when handling this plant as may cause skin irritation or allergic reaction. Take care if placing around or near small children.

Care : Euphorbia xylophylloides likes part shade to some full sun, rich good draining soil mix. Can adapt to being basket grown or trained upright in form but will require stakes/support. Protect from frost especially tender young plants. Older growth has thick skin so more able to handle brief cold temps down to 20's degrees.

If trimmed Euphorbia xylophylloides main stems eventually become woody and more stiff and can be trimmed into a small bush.
